Cooking at The Abbey:
"The Kids"

By Malcolm Hudson Posted
04/20/2005

LAKE
LINDEN -- Malcolm Hudson, chef at The Abbey in Lake Linden, has been giving
cooking lessons to both children and adults. He describes his discovery that
teaching kids can be "fun, invigorating [and] unexpected." Invited by Mrs.
Heide, Lake Linden Elementary teacher, to teach one or two of her Great Explorations
cooking classes one afternoon, Hudson accepted and volunteered to do more. He
is now teaching two classes from CLK (Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw) schools and two
from Lake Linden. His last Saturday cooking seminar for adults this spring -- The Complete Brunch
-- will be held from 12 noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 23. more

HOUGHTON --
As part of Michigan Tech University's Earth Week celebration, the IMAX® movie Beavers
will be shown at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 20, in the McArdle Theater, Walker
Arts and Humanities Center, on the MTU campus. Guest author Jim Mihelcic says the two
stars of the movie are engineers -- two adult North American beavers. He notes
the movie is a must see for anyone interested in observing the beavers' hard work,
intricate engineering design and sustainable dam construction. The 58-minute
film is shot in the beautiful Canadian Rockies. "The underwater scenes (and accompanying musical score) are fantastic,"
Mihelcic notes. more March 2005 Viewpoints
