Thanks again to Clarence Monette and other members of the Keweenaw County Historical Society for the lovely traditional lights on the Phoenix Church and its trees. Keweenaw Now wishes a peaceful, safe and happy holiday season to all.

Mini-Blog from the Editor: Snowed-in après-ski

By Michele Anderson  Posted 12/13/2004

Michele, just off the Swedetown trails before the snowstorm Sunday, Dec. 12. (Photo © 2004 Mark Jindrich)CALUMET --  Skiing at Swedetown was a challenge on sticky snow Sunday afternoon. After warming up, drying off, and eating, I decided against driving home through drifts, high winds and more snow. Thanks to hospitable friends for shelter from the storm. Thanks to our county road commissions and the State of Michigan for a job well done on our Keweenaw streets and highways! I made it back to Hancock Monday morning, well rested and ready to face the inevitable Yooper scooping and shoveling -- reportedly 20 inches or so. See the Keweenaw Trails Web site for results of the MTU Christmas Classic (before the storm) races and more info on local cross-country ski trails.
