By Lynn Torkelson Posted 07/15/2003

TORCH
LAKE TOWNSHIP -- Guest columnist Lynn Torkelson describes how PastyNET's new wireless Internet service, recently installed through an inconspicuous antenna on the Quincy Mine Hoist, reaches the computers for his company, SoftMedia Artisans, Inc., located on Portage Lake, south of Dollar Bay. SAVE BETE GRISE SOUTH

Posted 07/04/2003

LAC
LA BELLE -- The Save Bete Grise Fundraising Committee invites Keweenaw Peninsula
residents and visitors to help preserve Bete Grise South
-- identified by The Nature Conservancy (TNC) and the State of Michigan as the
single most important estuarine Great Lakes Marsh remaining in the Upper Great
Lakes. Landowner International Paper/Lake Superior Land Co. (IP/LSLC) has agreed
to work with TNC and others to sell the 1000 plus acres on Keweenaw's south
shore, although the area is now slated for residential development. TNC needs help in
raising $100,000 by Dec. 31, 2003, in order to secure an option to purchase the
land, which is expected to cost more than $1 million. IP/LSLC also provides a
map showing the location of the acreage. more
