MATTAWAN, MICH. -- In a letter to the editor, Jim Brisky of Mohawk and Mattawan, Mich., says he is horrified by the President and his advisors pushing our going to war on Iraq. Noting his disillusionment with both major political parties in the United States, Brisky says the billions used to try and control the world could be better spent on solving the problems in those countries and in our own.

Leave Car at Home on Sept. 11

HOUGHTON -- In a Sept. 10, 2002, letter to The Daily Mining Gazette, Houghton resident Alex Mayer says a fitting way to commemorate Sept. 11 is to leave your car at home -- car pool,
walk, bike or take a bus to work. Mayer notes we can prevent future attacks like those of Sept. 11 by reducing our dependence on oil from Saudi Arabia and other countries with oppressive regimes.
