price to lower our area's water quality?

KEWEENAW -- A letter to the editor from Tom Paine (pseudonym for an
anonymous Keweenaw resident) reminds readers that February 6, 2002, is the
close of the public comment period for the Mt. Bohemia ski hill's request to
modify their Part 31 wastewater discharge permit. Black Bear is requesting to
increase their annual discharge of phosphorus to Lac La Belle, and this increase
may adversely impact the lake's water quality. more
Trail users ask Hancock to reconsider Swedetown Creek proposal

HANCOCK -- Outdoor enthusiasts who use the Maasto Hiihto
trail system have asked the Hancock City Council to reconsider the vote
against applying for a grant to purchase the land along Swedetown Creek.
They are backing it up with their pocketbooks, according to a
spokesperson for the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club. more

EAGLE RIVER -- Keweenaw County Sheriff Ron Lahti sends a letter thanking the people of Keweenaw for donating to the 2001 "No Kid Without a Christmas" program for 78 children who would have had nothing or very little for Christmas without their help.
