Krayons' greenhouse under construction

based at the Ramblin' Rose Arts Center in Mohawk, will soon have a new permanent greenhouse, thanks to local youth, Keweenaw
Academy students and adult volunteers. Guest columnist Carol Rose, founder and director
of the non-profit arts organization, says volunteers are essential for this and

Letter: Afghanistan threatened with mass starvation

HANCOCK -- Scott Rutherford of Hancock says United States military actions in retaliation for the September 11 tragedy could result in the starvation of two million people in Afghanistan. While six million Afghans will be dependent on aid this winter, Rutherford says a United Nations refugee agency has refused to increase food deliveries because the Taliban have interfered with them. Rutherford asks why the U.S. media have said little about this crisis.

Keweenaw County Historical Society Banquet showcases achievements, KNHP plans

ALLOUEZ -- About 75 members and guests of the Keweenaw County Historical Society (KCHS) met for dinner at the Allouez Community Hall on October 7 to celebrate a year of accomplishments, present an annual award and hear speaker Keweenaw National Historical Park Superintendent Frank Fiala outline his vision for the future.
