Letter from Editor

January 8, 2002

From the Editor:

Dear Readers, Contributors and Sponsors,

This is a big "thank you" to all of you who have helped Keweenaw Now get started as a community Web site of News, Views and Happenings in the Keweenaw Peninsula. At this time I remain the editor and publisher of K-NOW, but I must take a leave of absence as news reporter. I have accepted a temporary, full-time teaching position at Michigan Technological University for Spring Semester, 2002.

During this time we especially welcome guest columns from our readers, and we are seeking reporters for news stories. Please write to me at andersm@pasty.com or call me at (906) 483-0822 if you are interested in writing a viewpoint column or in reporting on Keweenaw news and issues, local government meetings or land use committee meetings. Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to offer some compensation to writers, but we welcome volunteer contributors.

I am most grateful that Constance Petersen, our Web designer at SoftMedia Artisans, Inc., has generously agreed to post the stories on Keweenaw Now while I am busy with teaching. She has also customized a new discussion board to succeed Pasty Central's Keweenaw Issues. Lynn Torkelson, Constance's husband and business partner, also of SoftMedia Artisans, Inc., has agreed to serve as discussion moderator. This interactive forum will be available soon for your participation.

We appreciate your continued, loyal readership and support -- and we wish you a peaceful and happy 2002.

Sincerely,

Michele E. Anderson, Editor and Publisher
