LAC LA BELLE -- A report regarding the ski hill sewer disposal project will soon be issued by Randy Conroy of the Waste Management Division of the Department of Environmental Quality. Conroy may also be present to answer questions at the Grant Township Board meeting on Wednesday, November 14. He will give the reasons why a public hearing was not granted. Awaiting final approval, Black Bear, Inc. was told it could proceed with the project at the company’s own risk.

Lac La Belle residents are asking local officials why the ski hill sewer disposal project is permitted under Resort-Residential Zoning. They also ask why the ski hill “yurts” structures have been approved, even though appeal board variance hearings were not held.

It’s said that the Bete Grise South road - DNR rejected permit is still in litigation in Lansing. Water levels are being tested and it appears that other work is being done on the land.

Two important meetings: Keweenaw County Board at the Courthouse in Eagle River on November 13 and the Grant Township Board at the Community Building in Copper Harbor on November 14. Both meetings begin at 7 p.m.

The "United We Stand" patriotic rally scheduled for Saturday, November 10, 3 p.m. at the Calumet High School will have Congressman Bart Stupak as the principal speaker.

The Seasons Restaurant is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The Lodge Store is closed Wednesdays, with varied hours during the other days of the week. Food is available in the store.

South Shore Association members who live in the area are already looking forward to the annual meeting and potluck on January 12.
