LAC LA BELLE -- A favorable census count resulted in redistricting Keweenaw County; thus Grant and Sherman townships will share a new seat on the County Board after next year’s election. The Mohawk-Fulton District Three will lose a seat. At its September 30 South Shore Association membership meeting, Chuck Brumleve and Vern LeBlanc were appointed to head a committee to seek a viable candidate for the new representation on the five Commissioner Board.

District Five Keweenaw County Board member Donald Keith lives in Eagle Harbor and is a South Shore Association member. He attended the September 30 meeting and urged the need for more citizen involvement.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality has issued a public notice regarding authorization for a discharge of sanitary wastewater for the Black Bear, Inc., Mount Bohemia Ski Hill. Comments or objections to the proposed authorization received by DEQ will be considered in the final decision to grant the permit.

The Grant Township Land Use Advisory Committee will meet with the Grant Township Board in the Copper Harbor Community Center on Friday, October 5, for a work and information session.

In addition to two kills at the opening of the bear hunting season, Lac La Belle Lodge renters bagged four more last week…The Lodge and the Seasons Restaurant will be on a new schedule beginning October 15.

Several area businesses, including Delaware Mine, are scheduled to close for the winter after business on Sunday, October 14.
