Omega House now accepting new residents
HOUGHTON -- The Board of Directors of Omega House (OH) is pleased to announce that in September, OH officially opened and has accepted its first
two residents. The newly constructed hospice has six rooms. Four of these are
now available for new residents.
Omega House is a home for the terminally ill who are enrolled with a certified Medicare hospice provider. In the four-county area those are Baraga Home Health and Hospice, Keweenaw Home Nursing and Hospice, Portage Home Health and Hospice (pending licensure) and Superior Home Nursing and Hospice. The daily fee,
with a sliding scale based on income and assets, covers room, board and 24-hour care. Omega House is a place where family and friends can support their dying loved one through visits and short stays and where physical, emotional and spiritual needs
are addressed by professional and volunteer caregivers.

"After years of volunteer dedication to raise the 1.085 million dollars needed to build the Upper Peninsula's first home of this type, our dream has become reality" says Cindy Griffin, chairperson of operations. "I'm just so happy to finally be providing a home for the area's terminally ill who need the care."
Omega House provides a home-like environment for the terminally ill who lack caregivers and who do
not want to spend their final days and weeks in a hospital or nursing home. Each
resident has a private room with a pleasant view of surrounding trees. A patio
allows patients to sit outside in good weather.
"I love working here," said Jacqueline Mace, certified nurse aide
and full-time Omega House employee. "It's very rewarding to care for people
at the end of life."
Mace said official visiting hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but family members or
close friends can visit any time. Visitors can call 482-4438 during daytime
hours or ring the doorbell after hours if the door is locked.
The home is located at 2211 Maureen Lane, off West Sharon Avenue in Houghton (near the Bluffs).
If heading south on M-26, turn right at the light near Festival Foods. Take the
first right turn after the turn to the Bluffs. For more information on how to support OH or
on admittance, please contact Mary Herlevich, House Manager, at (906) 482-4438.
