Relay for Life tops goal, may net $125,000 for Cancer Society

HOUGHTON -- Houghton's recent Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society raised a gross amount of nearly $135,000 and may net close to $125,000 after expenses -- making it the number one fundraiser of this year's six Upper Peninsula relays. Michigan Vets honor Rep. Rich Brown

 State Rep. Rich Brown (D-Bessemer) LANSING -- The Michigan American Legion recently awarded State Representative Rich Brown (D- Bessemer) a plaque for his efforts on behalf of Michigan's veterans. Brown, who opposed the Governor's Executive Order to cut nearly $1.8 Million out of Military and Veterans' Affairs programs, said the current legislative session has involved a number of important issues for veterans. more

Committee Promotes "Greener" Michigan Tech

Seven-Mile Point open; volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to host visitors any Saturday or Sunday from either noon to 5 p.m. or 5 p.m. to sunset. The North Woods Conservancy (NWC) Newsletter on their Web site lists Seven Mile Point summer hours, visitor guidelines, directions and an update on NWC fund raising.
