Finlandia Art and Design students exhibit work

HANCOCK -- Finlandia University's International School of Art and Design held a reception for the Juried Student Art
Exhibit on April 4, 2006, in the Finnish-American Heritage Center in Hancock.
Student work includes the disciplines of drawing, painting and illustration, ceramic and glass, fiber and fashion design, product and interior design, and graphic design and digital media.
The exhibit showcases the work of Finlandia students for the academic school year. Awards to students are based on jury decision.

The winners were as follows: -
Award for Best Freshman Drawing: Ben Mitchell for "Self Portrait"
- Award for Best Drawing and Painting: Wade Wainio for "Interpolation of
Sound"
- Award for Best Digital Art: Jonathan Kreivifor "Killing Jar"
- Award for Best Graphic Design: Kylee Benson for "Diversity Stamps"
- Award for Best Ceramic Design: Casey Zablocki for #1 and #2
- Award for Best Sculpture: Casey Cole for "Impression"
- Award for Best Fiber Design: Kari Heikkinen for Batik Window Curtain
- Honorable Mention Freshman Drawing Award: Stacy Karvonen for "Sunset
Valley"
- Honorable Mention Drawing and Painting Award: Carrice McKinstry for
"Soul Bath"
- Honorable Mention Drawing and Painting Award: Avery Neal for "Macaque in
Snow"
- Honorable Mention Digital Art Award: Ben Mitchell for "Dream Balloon"
- Honorable Mention Graphic Design Award: Casey Cole for Poster Design Series
- Honorable Mention Sculpture Award: Stephen Bosio for "Soul of Man"
- Honorable Mention Fiber Design Award: Tommi Vasquez for "Fall of
Dreams"
A highlight of the reception was the fashion show, where models revealed their
talents in design.
With the well-attended show, artists gained exposure for their achievements, and the public gained exposure to talented artists.

These student works will be on exhibit through April 20, 2006. The Finnish-American Heritage Center Gallery, 435 Quincy St., Hancock, is open Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information call (906)-487-7500.
