Martin Luther King Day     January 17, 2005     Houghton, MI

End the War in Iraq and Bring the Troops Home Now!

In honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we remember his words about the Vietnam War in New York City on April 4, 1967: "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death."

Dr. King preached love, peace and compassion; President Bush's message is war, revenge and fear. If Dr. King were alive today, he would be leading massive protests against Bush's war in Iraq and his abandonment of civil rights, social justice and the poor at home.

The Iraq War is not a war of the American people. Now 1,300 brave young Americans, and some estimate 100,000 Iraqis have died as a result of the war. The politicians owe our troops a plan -- a way to come home.

To Congressmen Stupak and Senators Levin and Stabenow: Call on President Bush to begin the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq. Sign on to the letter that 16 Congressmen have already sent to President Bush: End the War in Iraq!

Editor's Note:
