Rich Brown appointed to Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education
LANSING -- State Representative Rich Brown (D- Bessemer) was appointed on
Tuesday, April 9, to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education
to fill in for State Rep. Gretchen Whitmer (D- East Lansing), who is on
maternity leave.
Brown,
who also serves as vice-chair of the Natural Resources and Environmental Quality
subcommittee, heard testimony on April 10 from the University of Michigan- Ann
Arbor, Michigan State University, Wayne State University and Oakland University.
The Higher Education Subcommittee oversees funding for Michigan's universities.
"I am very glad to have the opportunity to serve on the Higher Ed.
Subcommittee. Supporting education has always been a top priority for me,
and I am glad that I'll have the chance to serve on the committee when both
Michigan Tech and Northern testify within the next month," said Brown.
"Funding higher education serves as an important tool to enhance economic
development in the U.P. and throughout Michigan by giving people the skills they
need to succeed."
Rep. Brown will be on the Higher Education Subcommittee through May 7, 2002.
"Rep. Brown brings to the committee a track record of long-term
commitment to public education, for both higher education institutions and
K-12," said Rep. A.T. Frank (D- Saginaw), minority vice-chair of the
committee. "We are glad to have him bring his experience with these
issues to the committee."
