Youth artists exhibit work in Hancock, Calumet

HANCOCK -- Two new exhibits of artwork by local youth will honor young artists during Youth Arts Month. Both the Community Arts Center in Hancock and the Omphale Gallery in Calumet are displaying work by Copper Country youth during the month of March.

“Celebrating Youth Arts Month” is the new exhibit through March 27 at the Community Arts Center in Hancock. This showcase of young artists' artwork is on display in both the D&N Youth Art Gallery and the Kerredge Gallery.

In preparation for the "Celebrating Youth Arts Month" exhibit, AmeriCorps worker Tara McGrath hangs a painting by Jennifer Esunger, 11th grade Calumet High School student, in the Kerredge Gallery of the Community Arts Center in Hancock. Jennifer's art teacher is Virginia Douglas.

An open house to honor the young artists will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Community Arts Center, located at 126 Quincy Street in Hancock. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., and Saturday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. For more information, call (906) 482- 2333.

Youth artwork for Celebrate Youth Arts Month is also on display at the Omphale Gallery, 431 5th St., Calumet. The exhibit, titled "An Odyssey in Beginnings," will be on display through April 3. An opening reception, with refreshments, will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 15, at the Omphale. 

Omphale Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday and  Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and Saturday, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.
