Ukrainian Dance Workshop to be held Apr. 20-22

HANCOCK --  A Ukrainian Dance Workshop weekend will be held  Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 20-22, in Hancock and Laurium. Cathy Paroschy Harris, artistic director of the Chaban Dance Company of Thunder Bay, Ontario, will teach the dances. 

Trained in Ukraine, Canada and New York, Cathy teaches Ukrainian dance workshops in Canada and the United
States. The Ukrainian dances taught at this workshop will be for adult dancers. While the pace will be medium to fast, the dances will be adapted to all levels of capability. Partners are not required. The cost is $40 ($25 for college students).

The schedule for the workshop is as follows:

Friday, Apr. 20: Community Arts Center Ballroom (upstairs), Hancock.
6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. -- Free presentation on Ukrainian dance regions; variations in costumes, music and steps; similarities to neighboring countries; and the state of Ukrainian dance today.

8 p.m. -9 p.m. -- Sampling of Ukrainian dance steps (bring non-marking  shoes)

9 p.m.-10:30 p.m. -- Join the Copper Country Ethnic Dancers for the rest of the evening dancing Bulgarian, Armenian, Israeli, Serbian, Turkish and other international folk dances.

Saturday, Apr. 21: Laurium Ballroom (bring non-marking shoes)
9 a.m.-11 a.m. -- Teaching session
11:30-1 p.m. -- Potluck lunch
1 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. -- Teaching session

Sunday, Apr. 22: Laurium Ballroom (bring non-marking shoes)
9 a.m. - 11 a.m. -- Review of dances taught
