Peace Alliance to lead Walk Against War in Iraq Oct. 12
HOUGHTON -- Many area citizens are outraged that the Bush administration is demanding support for a preemptive-strike policy against the Iraqi
nation and its people.
Such an aggressor policy is not the type of America that we can be proud of -- support, or tolerate!
Such a policy violates established international treaties and international law to which the United States is a signatory.
The proposed preemptive-strike military action opens the door for any country to attack another if they feel it might pose a threat in the
future. This is an extremely dangerous precedent.
Besides, many of the "reasons" for a quick, preemptive strike that President Bush gave during his Monday night television address are
highly questionable. Some journalists have called them "exaggerated," or "entirely false readings" of
U.S. intelligence information. Hence, President Bush's reasons are desperately contrived and phony; at least not fully truthful.
We believe that there are more effective ways to solve the problems posed by President Saddam
Hussein. With all the economic power and diplomatic leverage the U.S. has at its disposal, surely there are
better ways, and more sane ways, to address this issue.
If you are also outraged at the idea of converting the U.S. Department of Defense to the "Department of
Offence," Please join us for a "Walk Against War in Iraq":
*** Meet at the Motherlode Coffeehouse, Huron St., Houghton
*** Saturday, October 12th at Noon.
A discussion will follow the walk from Houghton to Hancock and back to the
Motherlode. For information call: 337-6434
Note: If you wish to contact your U.S. Senators and Representatives on
the issue of Iraq, visit the Contacting
the Congress Web site for their phone numbers and email addresses.
