PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
KEWEENAW COUNTY ZONING/PLANNING COMMISSION

HC-1, Box 607
EAGLE RIVER, MI 49950

The Keweenaw County Zoning/Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at 6:00 P.M. at the Keweenaw County Courthouse, Eagle River, Michigan, to have a work session with WUPPDR to review the Keweenaw County "Blueprint For Tomorrow" Land Use Plan. This Plan was submitted by WUPPDR and the township land use committees. The commission may accept, reject and/or change any portion of the Land Use Plan. Any changes made may be open for public discussion and/or review after the work session is completed.

The commission will also review PA 263 of 2001, PA 264 & PA 265 of 2001 (Land Use Plan Review Process) and PA 177, PA 178 & PA 179 (Open Space Preservation) to ascertain amendments needed to comply with the requirements of the State of Michigan.

KEWEENAW COUNTY ZONING/PLANNING COMMISSION

Editor's Note: Keweenaw County Zoning Administrator Jane Pelto said this public hearing is really a "work session" for the Commission and WUPPDR (Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region). The session is open to the public. Lori Hauswirth, WUPPDR associate planner, will be working with Zoning/Planning Commissioners. Hauswirth said some adjustments have been made to the draft plan discussed at the August 7, 2002, public meeting in Mohawk. At the Eagle Harbor Township meeting on Sept. 9, Barbara Been, a member of the Eagle Harbor Land Use Planning Advisory Committee, reported that, according to the present draft plan, a Sensitive Shoreline Overlay applies to new development in those areas; Resort Service is being expanded and carefully defined; and a Historical Overlay is being re-instated. The "Blueprint For Tomorrow" document is available for review at the WUPPDR office in Houghton.
