Keweenaw Krayons
Pre-School Art Program: Continuing through March 18 at Keweenaw
Krayons in Mohawk. The program is for ages 4 and 5 and features an animal theme.
Classes, taught by Nicki Elrod-Olson of Mohawk, are on Mondays (March 11 and
18), from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fee is $3 per session. Drop off or send a check
to: "Keweenaw Krayons," 156 Stanton Ave., P.O. Box 191, Mohawk, MI
49950 -- along with the child's name, parent or guardian's name, address and
phone number, and the date/s of the session/s desired. In lieu of the fee,
Keweenaw Krayons is willing to barter for a trade of time or supplies.
Arrangements must be made in advance. For more information or registration call

Intergenerational Art Classes: Learn how to appreciate and understand art in
a fun and non-traditional way at Keweenaw Krayons in Mohawk in their new art
appreciation classes (open to youth and adults) on Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12:00

Learn to Do Art History Series--Cubism: On Saturday, March 2nd,
the learn to do art history series for ages 12 and up focuses on Cubism at the
Ramblin' Rose Arts Center in Mohawk from
10 a.m. - 12 p.m. You must pre-register by calling 337-4706.

Children's Classes
Art Rocks: A free studio art program for 12-18 year olds, taught by Tara McGrath.
This program offers young artists, the opportunity to practice skills, learn new techniques, or work on projects from school while in a fun, casual atmosphere. Join the group on Thursdays from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Community Arts Center in
Hancock.

Kids Make Art: Exploratory art classes for ages 6-9 in different mediums every
week, taught by Tammy Santti. Classes in painting, paper mache, beading, batik, sculpture, color,
drawing, and design. The class meets Wednesdays from 4-5:30 pm. and Saturdays from 1-2:30 pm. at the Community Arts Center in
Hancock. Fees for Pre-School and Kids Make Art: $10 per session OR special rates
with the purchase of a punch card: $30 for 6 sessions or $50 for 12! No expiration on the cards!

KMA Focus on Batik: This is a 3-week medium study for students ages
8-11, taught by Tammy Santti. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to paint with melted wax
on fabric and do cold water dying to create a colorful patterned or designed wall-hanging. Class meets from 4-5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, May 14, 21, &
28 at the Community Arts Center in Hancock. Class fee: $40 includes all supplies.

Papermaking: This is a fun 3-week medium study for students ages 8-11. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basic skills and techniques involved in making hand-made paper.
Instructor Bethany Stevens will incorporate the use of recycled, botanical, and found materials. Class meets 4-5:30 p.m.
on Tuesdays, April 9, 16, & 23. Class fee: $50 includes all supplies and a beginning paper-making kit.

These classes are for children ages 3-5 in drawing, painting, color, cutting, and sculpture. The class will meet on Thursdays from 10-11 a.m.

Adult Classes
Advanced Clay: Just what you have been asking for--for those experienced in clay who already know how to throw. The class will cover throwing
improvement along with making lids, spouts, handles and sculpture at the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
Instructor: Mary Ann Predebon. Class will meet from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Tuesdays: March 19,
26; April 2, 9, 16, 23. Class fee: $125 includes most materials, glazes, and 10 hours of independent studio time.

Beginning Clay: A fun and non-intimidating introduction to clay designed for those with no experience in the
medium. Learn basic techniques of hand-building, intro wheel throwing, and
glazing at the Community Arts Center in Hancock. Instructor: Mary Ann Predebon.
Class will meet from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Thursdays: March 21, 28; April 4, 11,
18, 25. Class fee: $125 includes most materials, glazes, and 10 hours of independent studio time.

Copper Filigree: Spend three hours with pliers and wires learning the technique of filigree to make earrings, pendants, or
bracelets in a three-hour workshop at the Community Arts Center in Hancock. Copper wire will be used, but the technique can also be applied to silver and gold.
Instructors: Patricia Pawlicki and Martin Herrera. Class will meet from 9 a.m. -
12 p.m. on Saturday March 9. Class fee: $45 includes instruction, tool use and supplies.

Papermaking: This four-week class will help you recycle and reduce the amount of garbage you throw out.
Learn basic papermaking techniques and incorporate the use of found and recycled materials. at
the Community Art Center in Hancock. Instructor: Bethany Stevens. Class will meet from
7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Tuesdays: April 30; May 7, 14, 21. Class fee: $75 includes all supplies and a papermaking kit to take home.

Sculpting in Clay: You may have had the chance to see Hugh Ralinovsky's fine artwork in the Kerredge
Gallery's February exhibit or the pleasure of hearing him perform at the
Community Art Center's Open Mic performances. Now you can take his clay sculpture class taught at the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
Instructor: Hugh Ralinovsky. Class will meet from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Wednesdays: April 3, 10, 17,
24; May 1, 8. Class fee: $125 includes most materials, glazes, and 10 hours of studio time.

Simple Soldered Silver Ring: Make a simple silver ring in a three-hour
workshop at the Community Arts Center in Hancock. Instructors: Patricia Pawlicki and Martin Herrera.

Watercolors: Through artist demonstrations and hands-on instruction, local watercolorist, students
will be introduced to a number of watercolor techniques at the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
Instructor: Clyde Mikkola. Class will meet from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Wednesdays: April 3, 10, 17,
