Abbey Chef-Author Malcolm Hudson to sign book on Brockway Mountain Aug. 23

COPPER HARBOR -- The Skytop
Inn-Grandpa's Barn and Malcolm Hudson, chef-author, present "Signing on the Hill," celebrating simultaneously the arrival of Mars and Malcolm's new novel,
Thibault and Malcolm / A Feast for Galileo. The public is invited for a book signing and French
hors-d'oeuvre by the Abbey under the tent -- rain or shine -- at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, on Brockway Mountain in Copper Harbor. The
New York Times has described the book thus: "Fasten your seatbelts for a rollicking ride into the
past...a master story teller...a sumptuous feast for all the senses."
Near-eastern Dance workshop to be held Aug. 20

HOUGHTON -- Ahlam will offer instruction in Danse Orientale, the Art of Near-eastern Dance, at a "Belly Dance" Workshop from Noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Trinity Episcopal Church, 205 E. Montezuma, Houghton. Registration and coffee will be available from 11:30 a.m. to Noon. Cost is $25. Everyone is welcome, and no prior dance experience is necessary. MTU to host "Affirming
diversity" Conference Oct. 5-8, 2005

HOUGHTON -- The Department of Humanities at Michigan Technological University will host the fifth Biennial Feminism(s) and Rhetoric(s) Conference, Oct. 5-8, 2005, sponsored by the Coalition of Women Scholars and Rhetoricians. This interdisciplinary conference affirms various aspects of diversity -- from language use to communication practices of women from different races, classes, cultures and historical eras.
