Finlandia Film Series to present The Cuckoo Nov. 11

Posted 11/10/2004

HANCOCK -- The Cuckoo, written and directed by Russian filmmaker Alexander Rogozhkin, will be shown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, at
Finlandia University's Finnish-American Heritage Center (FAHC), 601 Quincy St. in Hancock.
Released in 2002, this beautiful and tender film conveys the nonsensical effects of war and explores the human desire for survival in dire circumstances. Set in isolated northern Finland during the final days of war,
The Cuckoo depicts the interactions of three distinct people, cultures and languages as a Sámi woman gives refuge to a Soviet soldier and a Finnish soldier both left to die. The film is in Russian, Finnish and Sámi with English subtitles.
This is the second in a series of contemporary Finnish and Scandinavian films being shown
at FAHC the second Thursday of the month. All are welcome, and there is no charge; donations to benefit the FAHC are
accepted. For additional information, please contact Jim Kurtti, FAHC director, at 906-487-7302.
