MARQUETTE -- The Keweenaw Point Advisory Committee
(KPAC), an ad-hoc citizens' committee formed to advise the Michigan Department of Natural Resources on management of the state's recently purchased Keweenaw Tip properties, will meet at 6 p.m. for a Work Session and at 7 p.m. for a meeting including public comment on Tuesday, Feb. 3, in the Allouez
Township Community Building, 2 Bumbletown Road, Allouez, Keweenaw County. Both the Work Session and the meeting are open to the public.

Organized Chaos to hold farewell performance Jan. 24 in Mohawk

MOHAWK
-- Organized Chaos -- Keyboardist Mike Luusua and guitarist Dan Caron -- invite the public to enjoy their farewell performance at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, at the White House Inn, Mohawk. For
nearly three years the energetic duo has been rocking the Keweenaw with classic
hits and heavily-orchestrated showpieces. Along with live performances, they have provided concert audio solutions for numerous national acts and local festivities, including Bridgefest, the Keweenaw

Calumet Theatre
to present folk festival Jan. 23

CALUMET
-- The Calumet Theatre will present the Keweenaw Folk Festival, starring Erik Koskinen,
Steppin In It, Robert Jones and Matt Watroba at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23. Davey Holmbo,
the Theatre's artistic/technical director says tonight's presentation of great
talent may lead to an annual event. Tickets are still available at the
door or at the box office, open from noon until showtime. Call 337-2610 after

Houghton County Democrats' discussion group to meet Jan. 22

HOUGHTON -- In preparation for the Feb. 7 Michigan Presidential Caucus, the Houghton County Democratic Party monthly discussion group will be held at
7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Super 8 Motel in Houghton.
Information about the caucus process and the candidates will be available. Refreshments will be served.
The Houghton County caucus will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb.
7, in the Super 8 Motel conference room. Democrats interested in participating in the
caucus must be residents of Houghton County and declare themselves to be
Democrats; they do not need to be registered voters or dues-paying members of the Democratic Party.
In Keweenaw County the caucus will be held at the County Building in Mohawk, in Baraga County at the L'Anse VFW Hall and in Ontonagon County at the Centennial Hall in
Ewen. Voting will take place at all sites from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 7. Registered voters may also vote in the caucus by mail. For more information call Janet Metsa at 482-5665 or Amy Wisti at 482-9691.
Note: Amy Wisti explained that caucuses (run by a political party) and
primaries (run by the state) are run differently from state to state. Persons
unable to attend tonight because of the weather
can receive this information at the regular Democratic Party meeting at 7 p.m.

Democratic Party Web site.
Keweenaw Tip management plan advisory group to meet Jan. 20

KEWEENAW PENINSULA -- An organizational meeting of the citizens' advisory
council chosen by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to help
write the management plan for the state's recently acquired 6,275 acres known as
the Tip of the Keweenaw will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20, in the
Allouez Community Center in Allouez. According to Keweenaw County Commissioner
Don Keith, the public is invited to attend this meeting. Read

County Board to vote on funding for Mountain Lodge

EAGLE RIVER -- The Keweenaw County Board of Commissioners will meet at 7 p.m. on
Wednesday, Jan. 14, in the Courthouse in Eagle River. The Board is scheduled to
vote on whether or not to make a pre-application for funding a project to
include proposed construction of a community (conference) center and
winterization of the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. If approved, the County would
apply for an EDA (Economic Development Administration) grant and a rural
development loan (to be paid back by future Mountain Lodge income) totaling $2.5
