Thimbleberry Jam Fest, art sales in Mohawk Park July 27

Reprinted with permission.  MOHAWK -- Music, art and thimbleberry jam come together for “Music in the Park” and the “Thimbleberry Jam Fest” from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in Mohawk’s Allouez Township Park. Read about this and upcoming August concerts in Ahmeek and Eagle River. Keweenaw Krayons and the Copper Country Community Arts Council, a program of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, make these concerts possible. more

Volunteers needed for Keweenaw Trail Running Festival

HANCOCK -- The Keweenaw Trail Running Festival, rated one of the top five trail running events by Runner's World,  will take place Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14. Volunteers are still needed for the event, which includes these races: Sat., 8 a.m. 10k at McLain State Park; 9 a.m. 2k Youth Fun Run at McLain State Park; 7 p.m. Hill Climb at Mt. Lookout, Eagle Harbor. Sun., 7 a.m. 25k trail race at Maasto Hiihto Ski Trails, Hancock. To volunteer, contact Jeff Crumbaugh at runskikayak@hotmail.com or call 1-800-338-7982. Young role players to bring "History Alive" to Fort Wilkins Heritage Festival July 9

Historian Wil Shapton, organizer of "History Alive" and role player Heather Maclean wear early-1900s costumes for Calumet Heritage Celebration.  MOHAWK -- Middle school and high school youth from Keweenaw and Houghton counties, calling themselves "History Alive," will play early 1900s roles during the Fort Wilkins Heritage Festival from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 9. Peace Alliance to hold community forum July 9

LAKE LINDEN -- The Copper Country Peace Alliance will present a forum at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 9, at the Little Gem Theatre in Lake Linden. Peace Alliance members will speak about what people are doing locally to promote peace through building community. The event is open to the public, and discussion with the audience will follow the presentations. more

KLT members are also planning their fifth annual HorseTail Scramble Trail Run and Fitness Walk fundraising event for July 4 at Churning Rapids in Hancock. more
