Calumet to celebrate Heritage Days June 28, 29, 30

CALUMET -- The Calumet Heritage Celebration from Fri., June 28, through
Sun., June 30, in downtown Calumet and Agassiz Park, will feature activities for the whole family -- from the White Water performance at 7 p.m. Friday at the Calumet Theatre to the two-day Ojibwe Indian Encampment to the Antique Parade at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Young Historian role players, heritage foods, historic displays and games are just a few of the attractions.

Public Hearing June 25 to consider Ahmeek re-zoning

EAGLE RIVER -- The Keweenaw County Zoning/Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. on Tues., June 25, at the Courthouse in Eagle River to receive public comment on a proposed rezoning of parcels in Ahmeek Village from a Business (B-1) District to a Resort Residential (RR) District. The purpose of the rezoning is to accommodate well established residential uses and to encourage businesses to locate in areas most conducive to business activities. The hearing will be followed by the regular monthly meeting of the Commission.

Keweenaw Land Trust to hold meeting, fundraising Walk/Run

HANCOCK -- The Keweenaw Land Trust (KLT) will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. KLT members are also planning their fifth annual HorseTail Scramble Trail Run and Fitness Walk fundraising event for July 4 at Churning Rapids in Hancock.

Relay for Life to raise funds for Cancer Society

HOUGHTON -- The seventh annual Relay for Life fundraiser for the American Cancer Society will begin at 1 p.m. on Friday, June 21, and continue for 24 hours. This year's event will be more elaborate than the 2001 Relay, according to Kathy Archambeau, event manager. One team, Curves for Women, has already raised more than $10,000.

Allouez Township to hold Open House

MOHAWK -- The Allouez Township Fire Department and Medical First Responders
invite residents to an Open House from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wed., June 19, at the
Allouez Township Hall, 102 Second St. in Mohawk. This is an opportunity to say,
"Thank you," to Allouez Township residents who have made possible the
fire fighting and medical equipment, which will be on display.
