Omphale Gallery. 431 Fifth St., Calumet. The gala will feature a much-sought-after collection of live and silent auction items as well as an elegant evening buffet. Proceeds from the benefit will allow the cooperative "not-for-profit" gallery to continue its contribution to community enrichment by providing a venue for cultural activities and contemporary art exhibitions. Sat. 5/3. Walk for Peace will start at noon from the
Motherlode Coffeehouse in Houghton. The Copper Country Peace Alliance continues to speak out and witness for the cause of peace and justice the world over. The Peace Alliance conducts a daily noon-time vigil in front to the Houghton Post Office, as well as hosting a Saturday peace walk from Houghton to Hancock.
The theme for this week's vigils and walk is "The United Nations, not the U.S., should provide the leadership for the reconstruction of Iraq's future."

Thurs. 5/8, 7 p.m. The Copper Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited will meet
at Baraga Best Western Lakeside Inn, US 41, Baraga. Featured guest speaker will be Bill Mattes, Fisheries Biologist, Great
Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. Chapter members will also make a presentation of CCCTU's fisheries conservation project portfolio, detailing
successful projects on Houghton, Keweenaw and Baraga County lakes and rivers. Project literature and membership information will be available at the meeting.

the Copper Country Peace Alliance (CCPA) continues its weekly Peace Walk to uphold the principles of justice and democracy.
During the week, CCPA also sponsors daily vigils from noon to 1 p.m., in front of the Houghton Post Office. Please join us.

The annual event will have a Spanish flair this year, featuring several Spanish
and other wines, and tapas, or Spanish “little dishes,” prepared by
local gourmet chefs. The evening will include live music, door prizes, a coffee
and dessert course and a live art auction. Tickets are available in person or by phone at the Community Arts Center; seating is limited and advance purchase is requested. Call

at The Bluffs in Houghton. State Representative Rich Brown will be in attendance, along with local Democratic elected officials.
The event will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and a program during which awards will be presented to members who have shown outstanding commitment to the local Democratic Party.
