Sat. 3/15, 10 a.m. to noon. Dreamcatcher Workshop with Len Novak at Keweenaw Krayons' Ramblin' Rose Gallery, Mohawk. Ages 6 and up. $5. Rattle Making will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. for ages 8 on up. Cost is $10. You are welcome to bring a bag lunch to the intergenerational workshops and take both for $12. Materials will be furnished but you are encouraged to bring your favorite pieces of driftwood, feathers, stones, and other treasures to personalize your creation. Class size is limited and pre-registration with payment is required. Keweenaw Krayons is open to bartering and also has Renee Stemler Memorial Scholarships available. Sat. 3/15, beginning at noon at the Motherlode in Houghton, the Copper Country Peace Alliance will sponsor a Walk for Peace. The theme is "We support our troops. Let's keep them alive." Following the Walk, at about 1:15 p.m., interested persons are welcome to join a roundtable discussion at the Motherlode. For information call 284-0581.

Sat. 3/15, 5 p.m. Copper Country Chapter of Trout Unlimited hosts its 5th annual conservation fundraiser banquet, Range VFW, South Range. The event includes a hospitality hour, buffet dinner, silent auction, and an outstanding selection of prizes from national fishing tackle manufacturers and fine area merchants.At 120 members strong, CCCTU is recognized as one of the hottest, most accomplished chapters in Michigan for its successful sportfishing restoration work on Copper Country trout streams and lakes. Banquet tickets are $30 each or two for $50. All proceeds benefit local conservation and sportfishing projects. Mon. 3/24. 7 p.m. MTU's Eco-Lit Group welcomes environmental historian, Dr. Carolyn Merchant, Chancellor's Professor of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at the University of California - Berkeley. Merchant will give a public address, "Partnership Ethics: Humanity and the Environment." Fisher 139 on MTU campus. This event is supported by the MTU Visiting Women and Minority Scholar Series; the MTU Humanities Department, Dr. Robert Johnson, Chair; and the MTU Social Science Department, Dr. Bruce Seely, Chair. Reception for new art by Rita Williams, Susan Sanders and John Williams, whose "Embarkation: Journeys of the Personal" -- a lovely exhibit of paintings and wood turnings -- will be at Omphale through April. The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be served at the reception. Sat. 3/29. Michigan Tech International Club's International Nite Dinner and Performances. Dinner 4 p.m.- 6 p.m. in the Wadsworth Dining Hall. Tickets for the dinner ($6) are available at the Rozsa box office. Students on the MTU meal plan will get in free. The food will be prepared by the Wads staff, but the recipes were contributed by international students, and some of the food has been imported specifically for this purpose. Performances are from 6:10 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. in the Rozsa Center (also $6).

Sat. 3/29,  5 p.m. K.T.'s 2nd Annual Big March Communal Party. South Range Community Hall. Pot Luck, music and dancing to the Tikkanen/Taylor/Seppala/Perona Finn Woods Ramblers Polka Band (with John Perona on spoons) and then Rhythm Kitchen, followed by Melissa Davis. $3 helps pay for the hall and the musicians!

Sat. 3/29, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. The Community Arts Center is ten years old! All kids age ten and under are invited to join us for ice cream, cake, art activities, music and fun, as we recognize our birthday during Celebrate Youth Arts Month at the Center, 126 Quincy Street in Hancock. The party is hosted by the Copper Country Community Arts Council with help from Phi Delta Chi Sorority. There is no charge, but please call 482-2333 to RSVP or to obtain more information. The Celebrate Youth Arts Month exhibit is up through the end of March in both the Republic Bank Youth Gallery and the Kerredge Gallery.

Sat. 3/29, 8 p.m. Pat Donohue, guitarist for A Prairie Home Companion. Calumet Theatre. Donohue has played with such greats as Played with everyone from Chet Atkins to Leo Kottke. Tickets $12, $10 members. Show should end early enough to catch other local happenings!

Mon. 3/31, 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. Ed McMahon from the Conservation Fund will be giving a talk entitled "How to Work Effectively with Communities to Achieve Natural, Cultural, and Historic Preservation."   Ed is Vice President of the Conservation Fund which is a somewhat unique NGO in that it pursues all of the above. He has extensive experience working on preservation in communities around the country. Red Metal Room of the MUB. All are welcome to attend and light snacks will be served. Sponsored by the Social Sciences Dept and a number of additional sponsors.

Mon. 3/31, 7:30 p.m. Ed McMahon from the Conservation Fund will be giving a talk entitled "Balancing Nature and Commerce in Gateway Communities." Houghton High School Auditorium. (This talk will discuss economic and other benefits of protecting a community's historic character and natural landscape.) Open to the public.

Mon. 3/31 - Wed., 4/02. Northern Michigan University International Dancers present a Dance Workshop with Mihai David.
