Sat. 06/01, 12 noon. The Copper Country Peace Alliance will sponsor a "Walk for Peace" beginning at 12 noon from the MotherLode in Houghton. The theme for the Walk is "True Homeland Security begins at home -- with compassion for everyone and personal reductions of consumption and energy -- not with jingoistic worldwide militarism to protect corporate oil supplies." Herrera will be teaching a Foundation Workshop at the Ramblin' Rose Arts Center
in Mohawk. Foundation is the art of working with fire to change any metal from solid to liquid in order to change its form.
This technique will be applied to pure, crude, silver grain and small quantities of copper to produce silver wire and laminate. Foundation techniques and jewelry design will be explored during this workshop. Silver laminate will be used to design and create shapes applicable to jewelry making. Arts Announcement: Calling all Beadworkers! Applications are available at the Community Arts Center in Hancock for the
2nd biennial Great Northern Beadwork exhibition. This year’s juror is Jo Wood from the north shore of Lake Superior near Grand Marais, Minnesota.
The deadline for entries is August 1, 2002. The exhibition will take place in the Community Arts Center’s Kerredge Gallery September 3-28. There will be a weekend Bead Symposium on September 20-22.
