Fri. 03/01, 7 p.m.  "Lessons from Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr. -- the Power of Active Nonviolence for Social Change." at the First United Methodist Church in Hancock. A video entitled "A Force More Powerful" will be shown, followed by a discussion led by Tom Shea, a peace activist from Traverse City, and Scott Rutherford of Hancock. The event is sponsored by the Copper Country Peace Alliance.

Sat. 03/02, 11:30 a.m. "Inviting Dialogue" will be the theme for the Copper Country Peace Alliance's Walk for Peace, which starts from the Hancock City Hall. The walk will then proceed to Houghton and return to Hancock. Walkers should note the time and route have been changed for this week only, in order to accommodate participants attending a workshop on nonviolence being sponsored by the Peace Alliance. Walkers should gather in front of the Hancock City Hall by 11:30 a.m. The Alliance encourages members of the community to dialogue with the walkers about current issues. more

Thu. 3/21, 7 p.m. The Copper Country Peace Alliance will sponsor the video, "Keep Space for Peace," produced by Bruce Gagnon of the Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space. Thu. 3/21, 7 p.m. Public Speaking Workshop geared towards anyone whose career demands good public speaking skills. Workshop leader is Nathaniel Fuller, a veteran of fifteen seasons with the Guthrie Theater. In the Michigan Tech Memorial Union Alumni Lounge, this workshop is free and open to the public. Fri. 03/22, 4:30 p.m. The Seminar Committee will show a provocative 80-minute film, Killing Coyote, released by the independent film company High Plains Films, in G002 of Hesterberg Hall (Forestry Building on Michigan Tech campus). This documentary explores human/wildlife relationships in the West by following the story of a specific "contest hunt." As the story unravels, various viewpoints are explored including those of the contest hunters, ranchers, animal rights activists, government agencies and university researchers. Open to the public and recommended for those interested in conservation issues, the role of government agencies in predator control, human values of nature and wildlife, and moral decision making.

Fri. 3/22, 8 p.m. Eugene O'Neill's play, Ah Wilderness!  at MTU's Rozsa Center. The Guthrie Theater company will be in town for a three-day residency at the Rozsa Center that will include two performances of the play and a series of workshops presented by members of the company on campus and in area high schools. Workshop leader Nathaniel Fuller will play Nat Miller, one of the lead roles in Ah, Wilderness!
