Volunteers needed for annual Bird Migration Count May 11
HOUGHTON -- Volunteers are needed for the annual North American Bird
Migration Count on Saturday, May 11. This continent-wide count provides a
"snapshot" method of monitoring the spring bird migration. In
Michigan, the count is co-sponsored by the Michigan Audubon Society and the
Kalamazoo Nature Center.

In Houghton County, the count coordinator is Pat Gotschalk, who is looking
for volunteers to participate.
"There are many different ways of participating in the count, including
observation of your backyard bird feeders," Gotschalk said. "This
event provides a great opportunity for volunteers to make an important
contribution to our understanding of bird migration."
