Houghton to host first Spring Art & Music Festival May 4
By Kenneth Thiemann, festival organizer
HOUGHTON -- Houghton welcomes the first annual Spring Art and Music Festival
from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. The event will be held outdoors along
the waterfront and in the parking area near the UPPCo building. In case of
inclement weather, activities will be moved to the Dee Ice Arena.
The
festival will offer entertainment for the whole family with a variety of music
by local bands Finn Street, Shade, carp, Milk, Momentum Jazz, and Algoma with
out of town guests Frostbitten Grass and The Muldoons. Local artists and
organizations will have booths set up. It promises to be a day of fun, hopefully
in the sun, to celebrate Keweenaw spring.
Booth space reservations for visual artists are still being accepted. Payment
for booths -- all within eye and earshot of the stage -- will go towards the
music and a donation to the Community Arts Center.
Contact me at kathiema@mtu.edu or
482-4818 for more details. Interested artists may also receive information from
the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
Thank you Cynthia and Karen of the Community Arts Center in Hancock for your
hard work so far and especially for your help in the recruitment of some fine
artists!
Special thanks also go to to Mayor Tom Merz, City Manager Scott MacInnes for
their support. Thanks also to Chris Pinnow for helping to get the technical end
of the music ironed out and to Adam Johnson for his involvement with the flyers.
Thank you to WOLV, the Mining Gazette and Keweenaw Now for
publicizing this festival.
