Susan Robinson has had a lifelong interest in the natural world, with special interests in geology and birds. She earned a B.A. degree in geology in 1971 from the State University of New York (S.U.N.Y.) at Potsdam, New York. Since then she has taken an ornithology course from Cornell University as well as several courses in art and art history from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.

Susan presently resides with her husband, George Robinson,* in Hancock, Michigan, and does art nearly full time from her home. In addition to painting birds and mammals on driftwood found on the shore of nearby Lake Superior, Susan also does illustrations of pebbles, gemstones and minerals.

She has been publishing articles on artists who illustrate gems, minerals, dinosaurs and mining since 1987 for Rocks and Minerals magazine. Her recently self-published book, Is this an Agate? An Illustrated Guide to Lake Superior's Beach Stones - Michigan (2001), contains her own colorful, detailed illustrations.

Susan Robinson's recently published booklet contains her illustrations of agates and other beach stones found on Lake Superior in Michigan.
Susan Robinson is author and illustrator of the booklet, Is this an Agate? An Illustrated Guide to Lake Superior's Beach Stones: Michigan,  published earlier this year. It is available at Shea's in Copper Harbor and in other local shops.

Examples of Susan's art can be found in shops and galleries of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula and in the nearby states of Wisconsin and Minnesota.
