About Our Authors
Charlie Hopper is former vice president of National Software Systems and a resident of Keweenaw County, where he moved in
1988 with his wife Edie and their children, Jonathan and Becky. Retirement from the software industry allowed the Hoppers to
serve a number of non-profit organizations in the area, including Still Waters Community Elders Home in Calumet.
Called as full
time administrator in 1994, Charlie turned to the Internet as a source of support for the financially strapped home. First came
Pasty Central (1996), an e-commerce project built around Still
Waters' pasty-making tradition, followed by PastyNET (1999) a
full service Internet provider with secure web hosting and high speed dial-in and wireless service for business and residential
members throughout the Keweenaw.
Charlie's hobby is serving as editor of the daily Keweenaw Pasty
Cam which he and Jonathan started in 1998 to provide "a glimpse of life in the U.P." Now surpassing 3,000 pictures from a host of
professional and amateur photographers, this daily interactive feature explores the beauty and history of the region, with major
emphasis on the Keweenaw Peninsula.
