Adam Johnson

Profession: Engineer, musician, writer, photographer

Web site: Brockit.com

Born and raised in Kalamazoo, Mich., guest writer Adam Johnson is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Adam worked at MTU's Keweenaw Research Center as a research assistant while in college and as a full research engineer after graduation.

"I spent two years in southern New Hampshire working as a research engineer for a Boston biomedical company, Abbott Laboratories," Adam writes. "Daily feelings of homesickness brought my wife, Robyn, and me back to the Houghton area, where I was lucky enough to find a house and 40 acres of woods on the Otter River and help start GS Engineering (GSE), an R&D spin-off from MTU, where I work as GSE's chief engineer."

Adam notes his flexible job allows him to be a drummer in local bands (Fat Cow, Milk, Rhythm Kitchen) and run a side company, Brockit Solutions, which provides technical and hardware support and consulting for small businesses, as well as photography, website development, and audio recording. Adam has generously shared his great cross-country skiing photos with Keweenaw Now.

In his spare time Adam enjoys the Keweenaw with cross country skis, snowshoes, a mountain bike, hiking shoes and a backpack.
